After the Christmas High

It's been a while since I've sat here and posted about life and what has been on my mind recently. So that is where I wanted to take this post today.

I know that in the chaotic season that is Christmas, we can get wrapped up in the preparation. We can focus so much time on the buying, wrapping, organizing, making sure everyone is taken care of, parties, etc, that we just want Christmas to be over with. It seems like a whirlwind and we're all just holding on for dear life.

I know every December season feels that way for me. Most of my family has a birthday within in the month of December, so on top of Christmas, it becomes a crazy month. There are endless gatherings, more presents to buy, and a lot of people pulling for our attention in all directions.

It can honestly feel exhausting.

And then you get to Christmas day and rush through the chaos of that and by the 26th all you want to do is breath (and sleep). It wasn't until the 27th this year, while sitting in church, that I sat back to reflect on what a gift this whole season has been.

Then I thought about Mary. How the 9 months of pregnancy must have felt like a shuffle to get everything organized and ready. And how, when it came down to it, she didn't even have a "place booked" for her delivery (Luke 2:1-7). There must have been so much stress, so much pressure. Here she is pregnant with the Son of God, such a mighty task to be put on a little girl's shoulders, and she can't even give birth to Him in a place better than a manger.

I'm sure, as all good moms who want to give their children the world, she felt like a bit of a failure. A less than, for not being able to provide for her ever growing family. I'm sure after the stress of everything coming together, she just wanted it all to be over and the pain of the season to be gone.

But then comes the wonderful 26th and 27th. The days where she was able to look down at the beautiful baby that God bestowed upon her, and she was able to see how truly blessed she was. That this was not a painful and crazy season, but exactly where God had placed her. Loving and caring for her beautiful baby boy.

All of the stress and chaos of the previous season was able to melt away to show new life and freedom in the eyes of her son.

When I think of Mary and all that her family went through to bring the Savior into our lives, I smile because I'm reminded that the stress of my season has brought so much blessing into my life.

I thank God for the chaos. I thank God for the amazing family and life He has placed me into. I thank God for His Son. I thank God for the consistent sweet reminders that I am loved by Him. And I thank God for each and every one of you, my beautiful readers.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy 2016!

Popcorn Crunch Recipe & Coca-Cola Floats for Movie Night

So I have a little birthday is tomorrow!! Over the years I've always been asked, "Don't you just hate having your birthday two days before Christmas?" But the truth is, I absolutely love it! Everyone is already so festive and in the mood to celebrate that my birthday has always felt like a part of the celebration.

One of my absolute favorite things to do with my family for my birthday is curl up on the couch and make it a movie night that we can enjoy. There is nothing more relaxing then the twinkle of the Christmas tree lights, a warm snuggly blanket, and yummy snacks as we get to enjoy a great movie.

So for my birthday, that is exactly what I wanted to do!

I ran over to Walmart to pick up the Movie Night package so that I could enjoy their VUDU promotion at the moment and share some much needed quality time with my hubby. What is the Movie Night package and VUDU promotion you ask?? Well I'm glad you did because I would not want you to miss out on it!

First you need to head to your local Walmart between 12/22/15 through 2/2/16 and purchase Orville Redenbacher, a six pack Coca-Cola product, M&M'S® Chocolate Candies, and a great Sony Video, like the new movie War Room. Next, simply take a picture of the receipt with all four products listed on it. And finally upload it to, no later than 2/9/16, and you will receive a $10 off movie code by email to Vudu (*while supplies last, limit 1 per person), a great Video on Demand community organized by Walmart!

I started by grabbing my delicious snacks off the Walmart shelves. I picked up a box of the Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn in the popcorn and chip isle, these fun M&M'S® Chocolate Candies containers that I found by the registers, a six pack of Coke Zero in the soda isle, and the War Room movie by Sony Pictures.

I knew War Room would be the perfect movie to watch with my hubby because it is about how God restores marriages. We had already seen this movie in the theaters and I could not rave about it enough! Priscilla Shirer is one of my absolute favorite preachers. I've seen her live at a Christian conference years ago and the anointing God has on her life is undoubtedly beautiful! Listening to her talk is like listening to a best friend and when I saw she was going to be the lead actress in this new movie I just had to see it.

War Room made me laugh, cry, and realize the constant need for continuous pray in my life. Please go check out this film. Trust me, you will not regret it. It is the perfect family movie night film!

Before I could get into watching the movie though, I made some yummy treats with the snacks I picked up. I combined them for two fun recipes. One in which my husband has deemed movie time "crack" because he literally could not get enough of it! (We basically ate the entire bowl in one sitting lol)

Ingredients needed:

Orville Redenbacher Popcorn
Your favorite M&M'S® Chocolate Candies
Meltable chocolate
Sea Salt
Your favorite Coca-Cola Product
Vanilla Ice Cream

The first thing you are going to do is melt down your chocolate in a double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler you can easily make one by placing a glass bowl over a boiling pot of water. Make sure the water is not touching the glass bowl in any way. This is mainly for the steam created.

Once your chocolate is melted, place your Orville Redenbacher popcorn in the microwave to pop. Once it's ready, spread it out on a cookie sheet that has wax or parchment paper on it.

Sprinkle your favorite M&M'S® Chocolate Candies throughout the popcorn on the cookie sheet.

Take the melted chocolate and drizzle it all over the popcorn and M&M'S® Chocolate Candies, as heavy or as lightly as you prefer.

Finally, sprinkle the sea salt over it all and place it in the fridge to chill for at least 20 minutes.

While that is spending time chilling, you can move on to the Coca-Cola floats! This is a fun twist on an old classic.

Simply scoop your ice cream into your cup of choice. Then pour your favorite Coca-Cola product over top. (For me its Coke Zero!) Then drizzle the rest of your warmed chocolate over the float and add a few M&M'S® Chocolate Candies on top!

These floats were not only delicious, but paired perfectly with the Popcorn Crunch recipe as well!

Spending quality time snuggling up with my family for a movie night is the perfect way to celebrate my birthday! I'm so excited that God has blessed me with the years and seasons He has on this earth and I pray for many more to come, celebrating with those I love. War Room was a fantastic choice for movie night so don't forget to grab a copy of this awesome film!

Make sure you don't miss out on the fun! Check out some other wonderful movie night recipes here and do not forget to take advantage of this great VUDU offer

Treat Yourself with a DIY Hot Chocolate Bar

The Christmas season is definitely one of some high stresses. I know that for me personally, life has been completely full during this holiday time with family outings, community outreach, and lots of work. It's so important to remember during the Christmas season, to take time out and really enjoy  the spirit of the holidays.

For me there is no better way to do this than with great friends and a hot chocolate bar!

Last week I had the opportunity to invite my small group to my home for some fun and laughs. We were able to celebrate Christmas together, tell stories, and share delicious treats. It was a perfect evening of relaxation and joy. I was thrilled to treat my guests (and myself) to a yummy hot chocolate bar that was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening!

I started by grabbing some great hot chocolate flavors from Home Goods. I picked up peppermint chocolate, classic chocolate, and salted caramel chocolate. All three were delicious and even better mixed together!

I finished that off with some great toppings and dark chocolate covered pretzels with peppermint candies for stirring. It was a perfect combination.

Throw in your favorite mugs and some yummy chocolate chip cookies and you have the perfect hot chocolate bar!

To the set the scene for an incredible evening with friends, I decided to put together a fun and easy centerpiece. Lucky for me I have a holly tree in my yard, so I was able to cut a few wonderful branches off to use for my centerpiece. I took a glass tier tray that I purchased at a vintage shop, added the holly around the tiers and then placed some candy canes on top. It was super easy and brought so much color and festivity to my centerpiece!

I rounded off the centerpiece by using two lanterns I had around my home and added some fun candies up and down the table. It brings excitement to the room and adds great treats to pick off of throughout the entire season!

Creating a delicious hot chocolate bar and decorating my dining room to entertain my lovely friends was such a blast! I'm so happy I had the opportunity to take some time and spoil myself with some yummy treats as well as share some love with incredible women!

What have you been up to this holiday season? Have you taken some time out to treat yourself?

Decorating the Tree with a DIY Topper

Decorating my Christmas tree is something I look forward to every single year. Heading out to the local nursery to pick up your perfect tree is a highlight of the season. Examining each branch and deciding to make it a part of the family is a huge decision. But it creates a blissful environment that brings all of the magic to Christmas!

Now I know that picking out a real tree is not for everyone, but it has been a special event in my life since I was a kid. I always look forward to finding that perfect tree that will represent our family. This one we picked up in the Home Depot Nursery this year. We started picking up our trees there a few years ago due to the extremely affordable prices of them all!

Once we stand up the tree we add the water to the base. A fun little trick is to add a Tylenol tablet and a little bit of Sprite. For whatever reason this strange combination always helps the tree stay fresh longer.

When I begin decorating the tree, I always start with the lights. I always push the lights into the center to give the tree a perfectly lit from the inside kind of look. It helps the entire tree shine twice as bright!

This year I was a part of the ornament swap over at Dear Friends blog. These are the lovely ornaments my swap buddy, Taylor, sent me!!

After the lights were set, I decided to add ribbon this year. I took two 10 feet ribbons that I purchased at Home Goods and split them into four equal parts each. I placed all eight ribbons strategically around the tree and tied them together at the top so that they would all cascade down around the tree.

Once I was finished with tying the ribbon, we hung the ornaments. Then I twisted each of the ribbons to give them a curly like affect.

Next I moved on to my DIY Ribbon Topper. I searched everywhere for a good gold bow this year and could not find one. So I decided to make one instead!

I first purchased this pack of four smaller ribbons from Home Goods.

Next I grabbed a piece of twine that I had in my craft box.

I then took the sticky pieces of each bow and wrapped it around the twine to secure it in place.

I did this for all four pieces, keeping them fairly close together, and I just love how it turned out on the top of our tree! It flowed with the longer ribbon so well and really brought the whole look together.

I love how each piece of our tree came together. I could not be happier with the look. We keep our tree in our dining room in the cutout by the windows and it always makes parties so incredibly festive! I'm so excited to start piling up the presents underneath!

How are you decorating your tree this year?
